O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport Welcome You to the Windy City
Whether on a trip to the Windy City to seek out some of the world’s finest cuisine, to take in some shopping along the Magnificent Mile, or simply for a brief stop-over, you have several options for air transportation into Chicago. Two main airports serve Chicago’s lively metropolis: Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport. The Gary/Chicago International Airport also serves flights from Chicago to domestic destinations and to Mexico, and is continually expanding its services.
O’Hare International, the world’s second busiest airport, has been regularly voted Best Airport in North America over the years by virtue of its array of destinations and airlines, wide assortment of shops, variety of restaurants, convenient Virtual Concierge touch screen check-in stations, and easy airport transportation system. The airport also hosts several cafes and bars and frequently showcases original local and international art installments for the traveler with time to spare.
As a major Chicago airport and international hub, O’Hare holds five bustling terminals that serve a diversity of airlines. It is the world’s largest hub for United Airlines and the second-largest for American Airlines. Because the airport is so busy, it is wise to arrive with plenty of time to check onto your flight.
O’Hare is located approximately 17 miles northwest of the Chicago’s city center, which is known as the Loop. This is the historical center of downtown, where Chicago’s city train routes converge to loop around the heart of the city. Rental car, bus, taxi, and city trains are all options to travel into the city. The Blue Line route of the city train system, known as the L, runs into Chicago from the airport 24 hours a day.
Midway International Airport, Chicago’s second-largest airport, typically serves budget airlines and provides a lower-cost flight alternative for travel plans.
It is located ten miles from downtown Chicago and provides service to several airlines, especially vacation package airlines such as Southwest and AirTran. Midway also offers a variety of restaurants, concessions, bars, and cafes, featuring local cuisine, deli items, ice cream, and snacks.
Transportation to and from Midway International can be attained through the Orange Line of the Chicago Transit Authority’s city train, CTA buses, taxi, and limo services. Over two dozen hotels are located within 30 miles of the airport. The most immediate accommodations, such as Sleep Inn, Holiday Inn, the Marriott, Residence Inn, and Hampton Inn, are located within one mile.
