Dallas Airports: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Love Field
Famous for the Cowboys, J. R Ewing, and the Texas State Fair, Dallas epitomizes the spirit of Texas to many travelers, and the Dallas airports with customer satisfaction awards and easy accessibility lend credence to the concept of southern hospitality.
Dallas is served by two major airports: Dallas-Ft. Worth International (DFW) and Love Field (DAL). Six miles northwest of downtown Dallas, Love Field is home to Southwest Airlines. If you are flying from within Texas, a nearby state, or do not mind connections, Love Field is a good option. Continental Express flies to Houston out of Love Field, and American Eagle flies to Chicago O’Hare Airport.
In 2008, Love Field won the JD Power and Associates Customer Satisfaction Award in the small airport category for its second time, the first being in 2006.
The airport received high marks in airport accessibility, security check, and terminal facilities.
Love Field boasts conference facilities as well as the Frontiers of Flight Museum.
It also offers 7,500 parking spaces, major car rental facilities, airport shuttles, taxi service, and public transportation (DART: Dallas Area Rapid Transit).
For longer flights and greater choice, Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport is the best option. Offering flights throughout the United States, North America and Europe, DFW is one of the largest airports in the nation, based on flight volume. DFW is also a physically large airport. Keep this in mind when catching connecting flights. A high-speed train connects the five terminals, but save time and find out in advance which terminal your flight is leaving from.
Major airlines include Alaska Air, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental, Delta, KLM, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Mexicana, United, and U.S. Airways.
Located equally between Dallas and Ft. Worth, DFW is accessible from Highway 121 to the north and Highway 183 to the south. Allow two to three hours to arrive by car, as traffic can be heavy.
DFW offers valet, terminal, express, and remote parking, decreasing in cost the further from the airport they are. Hyatt Regency DFW has two on-site hotels, with special Park-Stay-Fly packages. Shared shuttles also serve DFW, as do the major car rental agencies.
To get to the airport using public transportation, use TRE (Trinity Railway Express), DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit), or Airporter (run by Yellow Checker Shuttle Co.). The Airporter runs service from all major Ft. Worth downtown hotels, the Airporter parking lot, and on-demand from other Ft. Worth hotels with an advance reservation.
