Los Angeles has many airports. The metropolitan area is so large that several flight facilities are necessary for the city to function.


The main facility is Los Angeles International Airport or LAX, which is a complex containing a whopping nine terminals. These are all fairly close, however. In fact, it is possible to walk between them in only 10 minutes. There is a shuttle service that circles the terminals, but if you are only going to the terminal next door then you might be better off walking. Each terminal serves several carriers. Therefore, if you are traveling on an international flight, you really should check them out carefully.

There are several hotels located close to the Los Angeles International, including a Hilton and a Holiday Inn. The city is connected to the airport by shuttle bus, but generally the best way to travel is by rental car. There are more such companies located at the airport than anyone would need to browse. All budgets, styles and driving preferences are catered to. The airport is 24 kilometers from the main city area. As flights to Los Angeles often relate to the entertainment industry, time can be money. There is a network of smaller and private airports around the city that allow visitors expedient and ample access and enable the pilots of small aircraft to indulge in several choices. Sometimes these airports can be very busy, so the pilot have become very knowledgeable as to which are the best routes. Flights to Los Angeles are often for a specific purpose: Disneyland, Hollywood, the beaches.

Some travels who are budget conscious and time conscious may find that flying to the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank or the Orange County/John Wayne Airport is more convenient. Some of the best sights in Los Angeles are nearest to the Bob Hope facility or BUR. All of the airports have shuttle or bus services into the city, but you need to learn how to use the complex public transport system if you do not have access to a car. Some airlines offer budget fares to the smaller airports, as they are often less problematic than LAX. Ontario International Airport or ONT is another option but the farthest from the city of Los Angeles itself.
